Case Study: Safeway Printing Digital Storefront Redesign
OVERVIEW
1. The Consultation: Moving Beyond “Paper and Ink”
During my initial consultation with the team at Safeway Printing, I discovered a significant gap between their capabilities and their online presence. While they are experts in large-format printing and complex visual graphics—producing everything from massive vehicle wraps to trade show displays—their old website felt like a basic, local print shop. They needed a digital storefront that showcased the “scale” and “quality” of their specialized work for high-profile commercial clients.
2. The Creative Strategy: Visualizing the Impact
My goal was to design a site that functioned as a visual portfolio while still being highly functional for business clients.
Service-First Hierarchy: I restructured the information architecture to highlight their diverse specializations, such as Backlit Vinyl, Fabric Printing, and Specialty Wraps.
Action-Oriented UI: I designed a clean, intuitive interface that leads users directly to a “Get A Quote” call-to-action, simplifying the inquiry process for custom, high-value projects.
Modernizing the Identity: By using a bold, professional color palette and high-quality imagery of their actual installations, I helped reposition the brand as a modern “Visual Solutions Partner” rather than just a printer.
3. Development: High Detail, High Performance
Since the site relies heavily on large-format imagery to prove the quality of their work, I focused on high-performance optimization. I developed the site to ensure that high-resolution photos of their projects (like wall murals and vehicle wraps) load instantly without slowing down the user experience. I also ensured the mobile experience was seamless, allowing contractors and event planners to easily browse services while on-site.
4. The Impact: Converting Visitors into Partners
The team at Safeway Printing was extremely pleased with the results. The new design successfully bridged the gap between their 50-year legacy in Signal Hill and the modern demands of the commercial market.
Increased Lead Quality: The clearer service categorization has led to more specific, high-value inquiries for large-scale graphics and wrap projects.
Streamlined Operations: The new “Get A Quote” system has made it easier for their team to manage client intake, saving time and improving the customer experience from the very first click.
